Pedestrian Struck by Vehicle in Crosswalk
Wednesday - April 30, 2008 - 6:50 a.m. - Canyon Country:
A serious traffic collision occurred at the intersection of Sierra Highway and Whispering Leaves Way this morning. Investigators have determined that Blanca Ayala, F/54, of Palmdale, was driving northbound on Sierra Highway in the #1 lane when she struck a pedestrian. According to witnesses at the scene, the pedestrian, Charlie Wang, M/76, of Newhall, was crossing Sierra Highway in a marked crosswalk when Blanca Ayala apparently failed to stop for a red light and struck him. Charlie Wang was transported to Henry Mayo Hospital where he is undergoing tests to determine the extent of his injuries. Blanca was not injured.
The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff Station's Traffic Unit is still investigating. Anyone who may have witnessed this incident should contact Detective Maag of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station at (661) 799-5112. There is no further information at this time. -ref 07669
