Operation Lifesaver

Deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff Station's Traffic Safety Division are participating in Operation Lifesaver this morning between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.  The operation is being held in conjunction with personnel from the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department's Transit Services Bureau, the California Highway Patrol, Metrolink, Union Pacific and Burlington Northern Railroads.

Law enforcement personnel will be positioned at various railroad crossings in the Santa Clarita Valley, while Metrolink operates a train on local railroad tracks.  These deputies and officers will monitor the railroad crossings as the train passes.  Citations will be issued to any driver who stops on the railroad tracks, fails to stop for the railroad crossing gate arms, or stops past the limit lines.

The purpose of the enforcement operation is to remind all motorists traversing the roadways in the Santa Clarita Valley to obey all rules of the road, including those involving the railroad right of way.

Credentialled members of the press are invited on board the train to observe any violations from the perspective of the train engineer. No open toed shoes will be permitted on the train. For additional information or to join the team at the operation, contact Deputy David Shoemakerat (661) 510-1289.
