Friday - February 01, 2008 - 7:30 p.m. - Canyon Country:
Detectives are investigating a car jacking which occurred Friday evening in the parking lot of the Costco Store located at 18649 Via Princessa, Canyon Country.
As the victim left the store and approached her car, she observed a red Honda Civic with its hood up and two men apparently working on the car. One of the men approached her, said he was having car trouble, and asked her if she could jump start their car. The victim offered her assistance. As she started her car and popped the hood latch, the suspect claimed he was having trouble opening her hood. When she got out of her car and approached the suspect, she saw he was holding a shotgun at his side. The suspect ordered her to give him everything she had. Fearing for her safety, the victim told the suspect to take her car.
The suspect, described as a male Hispanic, 18-20 years old, 5'06" - 5'07" tall, wearing a blue Dallas Cowboys jacket and blue jeans, fled the area in the victim's car. The second suspect, described only as a male Hispanic, 20-25 years old, 6'00" tall, fled the area in the red Honda Civic. Deputies responding to the call found the victim's vehicle was involved in a traffic collision at Via Princessa and Vista Del Canon and the suspect had fled the area on foot.
Deputies set up a containment and conducted a thorough search and investigation, but were not able to locate the suspects. Deputies recovered a loaded shotgun at the scene and other evidence which is being processed for fingerprints. Witnesses report that the suspect who was involved in the collision apparently sustained facial injuries and was slightly limping as a result of the collision. No other injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing and there is no further information available at this time.
